Yogasutras of Patanjali Web Series – Video 8 / Episode 8
॥1.2॥ Yoga is restraining the mind – stuff (Citta) from taking various forms (Vṛttis).
- yogaha = concentration
- chitta = mind- stuff
- vrutti = modifications
- nirodhaha = restraining
Practical Application of this Sutra:
Yoga is stopping the modifications of the mind. Easier said than done. Becoming aware of the contents of the mind is the first step to begin with. Then giving it an object to meditate is the next step which helps reduce the number of thoughts. Slowly senses are drawn inwards and the mind becomes calmer and peaceful. Remember, happiness is not objective but subjective. You gradually understand what it is to be in the now. Life becomes blissful.
